Darkness Into Light 2026

Walk with us from darkness into light.

Before sunrise on Saturday, May 9, 2026, communities around the world will gather for Darkness Into Light, a global 5 km walk that honours hope, remembers those lost to suicide, and supports people who may be struggling.

As the walk begins in the early morning darkness and ends with the rising sun, it symbolizes a powerful truth: even in the hardest moments, light can return.

Here in British Columbia, participants support the Crisis Centre of BC, helping ensure compassionate crisis support is available for anyone who needs it. For more than 55 years, the Crisis Centre has been there for people experiencing crisis, loneliness, grief, or thoughts of suicide.

By taking part, you help strengthen life-saving services including 24/7 crisis lines, suicide prevention training, youth education, and suicide grief support.

Join the Walk

Darkness Into Light takes place on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Participants will gather at 4:00 AM, and the walk will begin at approximately 4:15 AM as we move together from darkness toward the sunrise.

Meeting Location: Burnaby Lake Rugby Club

Remembrance Gathering in Support of Darkness Into Light 2026

On Sunday, May 3 at 8:30 PM, the Crisis Centre of BC invites our community to gather at Vancouver City Hall, north side off West 12th Avenue, for a brief public Remembrance Gathering in Support of Darkness Into Light.

This gathering will offer a simple and dignified moment to honour those lost to suicide, acknowledge the ongoing reality of suicide bereavement, and stand in solidarity with individuals, families, and communities living with that grief.

City Hall will be lit up in honour of the event. There will be a brief welcome and a shared moment of silence.

This is a drop-in gathering, open to all who wish to come together in remembrance, reflection, and care.

Our Impact The topic and word "suicide" is not so scary after taking a training from the Crisis Centre of BC. I'm grateful to have been here today, and am hopeful that I can help people in the future. safeTALK participant, Agassiz
