Grief is a universal human experience, yet one that’s often misunderstood or avoided.

This 4-hour interactive workshop invites participants to explore grief in all its forms, including non-death losses and suicide-related grief. Together, we’ll challenge common myths, deepen listening and communication skills, and reflect on practical ways to support ourselves and others.

Through discussion, reflection, and hands-on activities, participants will leave with greater confidence, compassion, and tools to respond meaningfully to grief in personal and professional contexts.

Learning Takeaways:

  1. Understanding Grief, Trauma & Suicide Grief – Learn the emotional, physical, and mental effects of grief, and why every experience of loss is unique.
  2. Recognize and Challenge Myths – Identify common misconceptions about grief and how they can unintentionally harm those who are grieving.
  3. Respond with Confidence and Compassion – Gain language and practical tools to support grievers safely, without retraumatization.
  4. Support Across Cultures and Ages – Explore culturally sensitive approaches to grief care and how to support grieving children and teens.
  5. Tools for Supporting Ourselves & Others – Build your own resilience with self-care strategies and community resources.

Our Impact The topic and word "suicide" is not so scary after taking a training from the Crisis Centre of BC. I'm grateful to have been here today, and am hopeful that I can help people in the future. safeTALK participant, Agassiz
