Grieve & Weave: A Creative Community Grief Gathering

A gentle, craft-based gathering where we engage our hands in the simple rhythm of weaving as we make space for our personal & collective grief. Held in-person in Vancouver, BC.

  • August 28, 2025 - 6:30pm - 8:30pm PDT (doors 6.15pm)
  • 763 East Broadway, Vancouver, BC

Grieve and Weave is a gentle, craft-based gathering where we engage our hands in the simple rhythm of weaving as we make space for our personal & collective grief.

Grief comes in many forms, and it’s not just something we experience when someone dies. We may grieve places, relationships, identities, dreams, hopes, the climate, our life as it once was, and so much more. Weaving offers a tactile, grounding way to be with that grief, together.

There is no expectation to talk or share. This event is introvert-friendly, and all kinds of grief are welcome.

Why Weaving?

Weaving is a practice found across all cultures and lineages. Its simple, rhythmic motion can be calming and meditative, which can help us process and integrate our grief.

Crafts like weaving engage the hands and parasympathetic nervous system, helping us slow down, regulate, and process emotions, one thread at a time.

What to Expect

15 min before start – Doors open. Settle in, grab a tea, and choose your seat.

Welcome & grounding – We’ll set the tone, co-create group agreements, and invite space to share what grief you’re carrying today.

Open time – Weave quietly, chat if you’d like, work quietly if you need. Discussion prompts and optional conversation will be available.

Closing (last 15 min) – Optional reflection and soft wrap-up.

What Grieve & Weave Is:

  • An opportunity to gather and intentionally connect with and tend to our personal and collective grief.
  • A chance to witness others and be witnessed in our grief, without the goal of fixing or solving anything for each other.
  • A guided opportunity to engage in a simple ancestral craft and experience the soothing effects of repetitive handwork.
  • A space with optional prompts to explore and share the layers of our grief.
  • An introvert-friendly space with no obligation to speak or participate in group discussion.

What Grieve & Weave Is Not:

  • Not a space for people in active crisis, or early, acute grief.
  • Not a space for medical, mental health, or clinical advice.
  • Not a support group, or a space offering ongoing support beyond this gathering.

Our Impact The topic and word "suicide" is not so scary after taking a training from the Crisis Centre of BC. I'm grateful to have been here today, and am hopeful that I can help people in the future. safeTALK participant, Agassiz
