September 2024 – Take a Walk With Us

This two-hour drop-in gathering aims to bring people with similar life experiences together as we walk in nature and have time to share. This gathering hopes to be a space for those who, in their grief, feel more action-oriented. This event is offered by the CC in partnership with the Vancouver Hospice Society.

  • Saturday, September 14th
  • Pacific Spirit National Park (West 16th Avenue & Sasamat Street)

Saturday, September 14th, 2024 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Pacific Spirit National Park

During this event you will have the opportunity to meet and bond with others who have faced similar losses. Our walk aims to create a supportive community where participants can share their experiences and find comfort in knowing they are not alone. You will also be able to engage with people who understand the unique pain of losing someone to suicide.

Our community emphasizes listening and validation, recognizing each person’s grief as unique and deeply important. Walking in this beautiful natural forest allows those attending to invite the grounding and comforting power of nature to allow us to be present with each other and present with the shared grief of this group.

Walking together we hope to foster unity and strength, offering a sense of peace and collective healing.

Who is it for?

Anyone who has lost a significant other to suicide and who wants to join others in building a supportive community of survivors.

We ask that you confirm your registration, as we hope to start our walk on time. Please allow some time for you to arrive, park if needed and meet the group. The event will only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions. Come prepared for possible rain (raincoat, umbrella, waterproof shoes).

The Facilitator

This session is facilitated by Jesse Cervenka and co-facilitated by a suicide loss survivor. Jesse is the Bereavement Coordinator at the Crisis Centre of BC as well as an intern Counsellor at the Vancouver Hospice Society, where he helps run various groups and provides one-on-one grief counseling. Jesse hopes to make this event a safe place for people to share their stories and build a sense of community.

Our Impact The topic and word "suicide" is not so scary after taking a training from the Crisis Centre of BC. I'm grateful to have been here today, and am hopeful that I can help people in the future. safeTALK participant, Agassiz
